Kitting up for the future...
(Cover story from the Mid-Season 2005 edition of ‘How’s That?’ – the Official Journal of The Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers.)
 The Association is delighted to announce the appointment of a new Official Merchandise and Retail Partner - Signature Sports, a company with a proven record in developing top quality sports kit, specialising in hockey, cricket, leisure and training kit. Signature is the official supplier to the Irish Cricket Union, provider of all playing kit to both the Irish and Danish sides in the recent ICC Trophy and designated preferred supplier of kit for the European Cricket Council.
Signature differs from many companies in the field by designing, developing and manufacturing kit in answer to customers’ specific needs, rather than trying ‘one-size-fits-all’ solutions.
This tailor-made, custom-fit approach made Signature the ideal partner to develop a new range of officially-approved on, and off-field kit for umpires, utilising the latest ‘breathable’, shower and waterproof materials. The range will, in time, offer everything from traditional umpires’ coats – but in twenty-first century materials – to trousers, bum bags and hats, right through to the complete new look field kit, as featured on the cover of this edition.
And, before you ask, new style kit will not be compulsory, and there is no intention of making it so. Anthony Farnfield, one of our two ‘supermodels’ on the cover, has been trialling the kit in matches this season.
He commented: “Being something of a traditionalist, with a traditionalist’s suspicion of man-made materials, I approached this new kit with some reservations. I was most pleasantly surprised. I’ve found it well-designed, practical, cool and comfortable. It exceeded my expectations by an innings!”
Another first – and one that will please the many who have argued for this for years, is that the complete range of off and on-field kit is to be available to ALL Members and features a tasteful ACU&S logo. This is placed on the right breast of the field shirt so that league or competition badges can be set on the left. The status of our Qualified Members is not threatened by this development.
The coveted ‘Nompere’ and ‘Entailleur’ insignia will continue to be reserved solely for them, available on those items specifically for Qualified Members ordered through the admin office in the usual way.
The full range is not yet available, but Signature can already supply the ‘new look’ field shirt with either long or short sleeves, the lightweight shower and wind-proof blouson and navy trousers, plus an ‘off-field’ casual three button polo shirt in a choice of two colours. These items are suitable for both men and women Members, and the latter will be pleased to learn that plans are afoot to extend the range with items specially designed for them.
This new kit is, of course, only available to ACU&S Members, so you will be asked to supply your membership number when ordering. Signature will then check this against the central ACU&S Members’ database to ensure that only those entitled to purchase and use this kit are able to do so.
Signature Sports supports Kent University
Kent University Union Sports Federation had a problem, but one probably not unique to them; they had been let down by their existing suppliers of sports and leisurewear for their affiliated sports clubs.
Sports Sabbatical Stephen Lamyman mentioned the problem to us. Within two month of that conversation, we designed a generic range of sports and leisurewear for all their sports clubs, provided them with samples and delivered their first order.
 We can’t always work miracles and we won’t promise what we can’t deliver. But we will work with you to provide your sports clubs with tailor-made, top quality sports clothing in an agreed, realistic and structured time-frame.

 Telegraph Fantasy Cricket
Signature Sports has again linked up with The Daily Telegraph to supply the personalised cricket shirts for their Telegraph Fantasy Cricket promotion.
 These shirts come as standard with the embroidered TFC embroidered logo and Telegraph sponsor’s print, with the option of personalising them with the manager’s team name embroidered on the right breast and name and preferred number printed on the back.
Although these shirts are exclusive to TFC managers, the same quality shirts with club or sponsor’s logo, sponsor’s print and individual naming and numbering is also available for your club.

Signature Sports has signed an agreement with Gunn & Moore to promote their range of cricket balls exclusively to leagues, clubs and schools.
The Gunn & Moore range has a cricket ball for every level of cricket, including junior and practice balls, and these can now be purchased directly through Signature Sports.

Official Kit Sponsor to the Irish Cricket Union

Signature Sports is proud to be the official cricket kit sponsor to the Irish Cricket Union, providing playing, training and leisurewear for the 1st team, women’s team and all the junior squads.
The first team to benefit from this deal was the Ireland U19s team in the recent ICC Under 19s World Cup in Bangladesh. Samples of this kit had to be approved by the ICC.
Signature Sports is also manufacturing all the ICU replica and merchandise products, which will be sold exclusively through Lion Sports in Holywood, County Down.
This is the first time the ICU has entered into an overall kit deal and also the first time it has developed a range of replica and merchandise goods.

Cricket In Europe
 The European Cricket Council has selected Signature Sports to be its Preferred Supplier of Cricket Clothing.
In a deal agreed between European Development Manager, Richard Holdsworth and Signature Sports MD Peter Johnson, the company will provide special offers to member countries and associated clubs in the ECC.
